After 120 years this was the first FA Cup Final to be played away from the capital. Due to the redevelopment of Wembley Stadium, all major finals would be played in Cardiff for the next few years.
Freddie Ljungberg put Arsenal ahead after 75 minutes and it looked like the Gunners were going to mark their 14th appearance in the Final with a win. However, two late goals from Michael Owen gave Liverpool victory adding to the League Cup that they won earlier and the UEFA Cup that they were to win a few days after this Final.
